On July 15th at 20:36 hours LFD, Millsboro and Gumboro Fire Companies were alerted for a house fire on Johnson Road e/o Shiloh Church Road. Past Chief Mark Sheridan responded as 81 Command. Fire Police Ron Scott advised Sheridan he was on scene and had heavy smoke showing from the second floor. Sheridan arrived and established Johnson Road Command. The first arriving Engine was 81-3 from the Gerald Brown Sycamore Station. They began an attack through the front. Engine 81-2 arrived and also assisted with the attack of the fire. Tower 81 arrived on scene with Capt. Dwayne Chaffinch who was assigned Division 2 on the second floor. Asst. Chief Cory Davis of Gumboro was assigned Division 1. The construction of the home in that several additions had been made to the structure made access to the fire very difficult. Rescue 81 arrived with Deputy Chief Mike Lowe who was assigned Operations. Command requested additional units from Delmar, Sharptown and Blades. Crews were rotated due to the excessive heat. Three firefighters were treated for heat related symptoms. Crews from Sharptown began salvage of the first floor. Heaviest damage was to the attic and second floor. Fire Marshal Harry Miller was on scene and began his investigation. Units cleared the scene at approximately 20:30 hours.
