Three Department''s Battle House Fire

On Monday afternoon December 20th the Laurel Fire Department with automatic mutual aid response from Gumboro, and Millsboro Fire Departments were dispatched to a house fire on Johnson road east of Laurel. Command 81 arrived on scene first with Fire Chief Mark Sheridan. Chief Sheridan established Johnson Road command and advised of fire visible from sides A,B and D. First arriving Engine was 81-3 with Captain Tim Walker. Command advised them to place in service a 2 1/2-blitz line and make their attack. Next arriving units were 79-1 and 83-3 and both units went to work in assisting in fire suppression and water supply. Engine 81-4 and 5, along with Tower 81 arrive next and crews start rotating with fresh manpower. Additional units would arrive and assist on scene working for approx 2 hours to control the blaze. Despite the efforts of three Departments the house was a total loss. No firefighter or civilian injuries were sustained during incident. The cause is under investigation by The Delaware State Fire Marshall.

Units Responding: Command 81, E-3, E-4, E/T 5, Tower 81, Rescue 81, Ambulance 81, Utility 81, 79-1, Resuce 79, Tanker 79, 83-3, Rescue 83. Blades 71-9, Rescue 71 for cover-up in Laurel.
