Multiple Shootings In Laurel

Thursday April 7th started out like any other ordinary morning in Laurel with people heading out to work, and children to school. At approx. 0813 hours the LFD, along with SCEMS, and Trooper 2 were dispatched to a Police action at Carvel Garden Apartments. Chief Sheridan picked up the Sussex county dispatch hotline and was advised of a victim with a gunshot wound to the face. Chief Sheridan responded in Command 81, along with Ambulance 81, and SCEMS (102). Chief Sheridan had units stage at the Game Zone, until advised by Sussex dispatch to proceed into scene. Sussex dispatch advised units to proceed into the scene, as LPD and DSP were on location. BLS/ALS units found a subject with gunshot wounds that were incompatible to life, along with a second victim with a gunshot wound to arm. Chief Sheridan advised Sussex dispatch to alert his station for a second ambulance and manpower assist. As the additional Rescue units arrived and assisted, Chief Sheridan was contacted at approx. 0840 hours by Sussex dispatch of a subject with a gunshot wound at the Discount Land Shopping Center; approx. ½ mile east of current incident. Laurel BLS units were committed at Carvel Gardens, so Chief Sheridan advised Sussex dispatch to alert Blades for additional BLS unit to that location. Rescue 81, Ambulance 71, SCEMS 107 and 102 found a victim with two gunshot wounds at this location, one to the abdomen and the other to the upper thigh. Trooper 2 landed and flew the patient to PRMC. The additional patient from Carvel Gardens was transported to NMH by Laurel EMS. At approx. 0840 hours Chief Sheridan placed units in service at Carvel Gardens. At approx. 0920 hours Asst. Chief Schweitzer placed units in service from Discount Land. All Laurel units were back in station at approx. 0928 hours. The Shooting rampage continued out of Laurel, thru Delmar, and into Salisbury were three additional shootings occurred before Sheriff?s Department Deputies apprehended the suspect. Area schools were placed under lockdown for most of the morning out of precaution. Police say they have a possible motive, but are not releasing it at this time.
