Fire At Well Known Laurel Deli

On the morning of December 1st, the Laurel Fire Dept. was alerted at 03:35 hours for a Fire Nature Unknown on Sharptown Highway, in the vicinity of the Laurel Airport.
Upon arriving at the station, notification was made by the E.O.C. that the call was being upgraded to a full structural response for a building fire at the South Fork Deli, at the corner of Horsey Church and Sharptown Roads.
E.M.S. Capt. Mike Lowe responded as 81 Command. Delmar, Sussex County Medic Unit 102 and Sharptown Fire Company, from Wicomico, County, were also alerted.
Upon arrival Lowe found a 2 story wooden structure with heavy fire showing on the 1-2 corner and side two. The first arriving Engine was 81-4 with Past Chief Bill Hearn as officer. Hearn was assigned Operations and an attack line was advanced to the building. Eng/Tnk 81-5 arrived with Deputy Chief Jeff Hill as officer. Hill was assigned as interior officer and a second line was advanced to the structure. Truck 14 arrived and was assigned to side one of the building to access the roof. Chief 14 Billy White was assigned. Truck 74 arrived with Delmar Chief Jeff Kowalski and were put in service on side two of the building. Eng./Tnk 1402 arrived from Sharptown with Asst. Chief George White being assigned R.I.T. and water supply to Sharptown?s Snorkel. Laurel Engineer Barry Sullivan and F/F Aaron Carey were assigned Safety and Accountabilty.
Blades was alerted to stand-by at Laurel?s Station and also handled E.M.S. calls within the district. Eng. 71-9 responded with Chief Ron Fensik. Fire Marshal Woody Magee arrived on the scene and began an investigation. Units cleared the scene at approximately 06:00 hours.
