Chicken House Fire Near Laurel

On Saturday February the 11th at approx. 1148 hours, the LFD, along with Blades and Seaford Fire Departments, were dispatched to a building fire on Laurel road just east of Sussex Hwy. Deputy Chief Jeff Hill arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a chicken house. Engine 4 with Past Chief Bill Hearn arrived, and crew pulled a 1 ¾? hose line and quickly extinguished the fire. Deputy Chief Hill reduced the box assignment to E4 and E5, along with E71-9 from Blades. Firefighters overhauled the area of straw that had apparently caught fire. Deputy Chief Hill placed incident under control at 1203 hours. Last units were placed in service at 1235 hours. No major damage was done, and the cause is under investigation by the DSFM.
