Working House Fire - W. Market St.

At 01:22 Sussex EOC alerted Laurel (81), Blades (71), Seaford (87), and Sussex Medic 107 to a reported working structure fire at 213 W. Market St. in the Town of Laurel. Command 81 responded with Captain Tim Walker and went on scene to find a 2-1/2 story balloon construction home with heavy fire from side 3. Engine 81-4 with Depty Chief Lowe arrived on scene at side 1 and placed 2 1-3/4'''' handlines inservice. Asst Chief Ritchie assumed interior officer. Tower 81, at its first working alarm, with Chief Sheridan positioned on side 2-3 for ventialtion. Engine 71-9 layed in from a hydrant for a water supply to side 1. Engine 87-9 supplied Tower 81 from a hydrant at Oak St. and Front St. Rescue 81, Engine 81-5 and Tower 87 were staged on W. Market St to assist interior crews. Rescue 81 was placed on side 4 for lighting and support, while rescue 71 was placed in a parking lot across the street on side 1 for lighting and support. The fire was brought under control in about an hour with units remaining on the scene for an extensive time for overhaul. The DSFM is still investigating the cause of the blaze.
