MD. and Del. Aviation both Utilized at Laurel MVC

On Thursday Feb 5th the Laurel Fire Dept., SCEMS and DSP Aviation were alerted for a MVC on Sharptown Hwy., approximately 5 miles west of Laurel. Sharptown Fire Dept. (Wicomico Sta. 14) was also alerted to respond an ambulance to the scene.

The first responding unit was B-81 with NREMT Luke Powell on board. 81 Command responded with Deputy Chief Mike Lowe. While enroute Command notified A-14 that since they would be arriving first to assess the scene and report. Upon arrival they reported a serious accident and requested Maryland Aviation also respond.

Upon arrival units found a Mercury Mountaineer had struck a tree ejecting all three victims. Rescue 81 was responding with Asst. Chief Keith Lecates.

Lecates was instructed by Command to act as Operations Officer. Powell was to be Medical/Triage Officer. Eng. 81-4 was responding with Fire Chief Mark Sheridan as Officer. Command assigned Chief Sheridan coordination of all incoming aviation.

Patients were packaged and prepared for transport to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Units cleared the scene in about 45 minutes.
