Temporary Station in Laurel...
Friday, October 22, 2004

Laurel opened a temporary substation. With road closures due to construction at the Laurel Library, access to US 13 is limited, from the current station. The temporary station will be manned by Laurel firefighters that live on the east side of US 13. The station is located on Sycamore Rd east of US 13 and will house Engine 81-3, equipped with an AED and rescue tool. The temporary station was approved by the Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission at their September meeting. The temporary substation could possibly be in service for, up to, 18 months. The LFD is working on a Strategic Plan for the future and hopes to add a second station on the east side of Sussex Highway, which would include the Sussex County EMS Paramedics. This process is underway at this time. The LFD is looking forward to serving the fast growing eastern side of Laurel with quicker Fire/EMS service.
