On 11/26/03 the Sussex Co EOC alerted Sta.74 Delmar, Sta.81 Laurel and Sta.79 Gumboro for a Structure Fire at 35553 Whitesville Rd, Martins Lime Stone Co. The smoke could be seen for miles as crews left their departments. 74 Command (74-17 J Morris Jr) arrived and advised all incoming units of a building 60x60 fully involved with chemicals inside. Engine 81-5 and Engine Tanker 74-2 arrived and put 2 inch3/4 hose lines in service each. 74-18 (Mark Naugle) had fire ground operations. Command requested additional tankers and engines from Sta.71 Blades and Sta.6 Parsonsburg. Truck-74 arrived and went into service using a master stream. 74-23 (G Adkins) was in charge of water supply operations. Several walls of the structure collapsed. Crews worked for several hours removing debris from the building. FM-16 was on scene and valued the loss of the building and contents at $125,000 with the cause being electrical in nature. Whitesville Rd was shut down for a few hours during the alarm.
