MVA With Ejection

On February 11th at approx 1642 hours the LFD was alerted for a MVC on Laurel Road east of Sussex Highway. While Fire/EMS crews were clearing debris from the roadway, and BLS units were enroute to Nanticoke Hospital, Sussex Dispatch alerted Station 81 and SCEMS, along with Trooper 2, and additional BLS units from 83 (Millsboro) and 79 (Gumboro) for a vehicle accident with ejection, on Scott Land Road east of Laurel. Rescue 81 with Fire Chief Mark Sheridan cleared the first incident and responded arriving first to the second accident to find a pickup truck on its side, with two patients ejected from the vehicle. Command 81 with Deputy Chief Jeff Hill arrived next and established Scott Land Road Command. Rescue workers began BLS treatment on the two injured patients as well as securing the truck with Paratech Struts due to one patient lying beside the truck. Trooper 2 and SCEMS arrived and ALS treatment is initiated on the patients. Ambulance 83 arrived and assisted with patient care on the priority one patient. E-4 and E-3 arrived and their crews assisted personnel on scene. Ambulance 79 arrived and handled the priority two patient, transports as a ALS unit by ground to NMH. The priority one patient is flown to PRMC by Trooper 2. Rescue workers remained on the scene for clean-up and lighting. Deputy Chief Hill placed incident under control at 1739 hours. Last units were in service and cleared both incidents at 1823.
