Early Morning Chicken House Fire

On the morning of July the 4th at approx. 0724 hours the LFD, along with Georgetown and Blades Fire Companies and SCEMS were dispatched to a chicken house fire on Layton road east of Laurel. Engine 77-4 with Chief Dennis Swain arrived on scene first and reported heavy smoke showing. A 5-inch supply line was laid in, and crews pulled a hose line and made a quick knock down. Engine 81-3 arrived on scene and Chief Mark Sheridan established command. 71-9 arrived on scene and supplied 77-4. Georgetown firefighters had extinguished the bulk of the fire, leaving only overhaul for incoming units. Additional firefighters would arrive and assist or relieve crews in hot spots or overhaul. Chief Sheridan placed incident under control at 0759 hours. Last 81 units were in service at 0858.
