Early Morning Fire in Portsville
Tuesday, January 23, 2007

On Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at approx. 0230 hours the Sussex E.O.C. alerted Stations 81, 71 (Blades), & 87 (Seaford), for a reported house fire just off Portsville Road. Fire Chief Mark Sheridan arrived on scene to find a two story wood-frame structure with smoke showing from side ''''A/B''''. Engine 81-2 positioned thier Engine on side ''''A/B'''' and placed one 1- 3/4'''' line in-service to the #2 floor through the front door. 81-17 (A. Schweitzer) was Division 2. Tower 81 backed up the drive to the structure for ventilation of the roof.

81-20 (D. Chaffinch) was Roof Division, Deputy 81 (J. Hill) was division 1. Engine 71-9 was a supply for E2 and placed a second 1-3/4'''' line on the first floor. Tanker 71 positioned for water supply. Engine 87-9 placed a third line with a gated ''''y'''' to the second floor for back-up. 87-15 (D. Butler) was Operations. A-81 and Medic 102 was assigned to re-hab. The fire was contained to the ''''B'''' wall and floor between Division 1 and 2.
