Construction Causes Gas Main Leak

On June the 8th at approx. 0915 hours, the LFD was alerted for a gas leak on west and seventh streets. Chief Mark Sheridan arrived and confirmed a 4-inch gas main had been severed during construction. Fire apparatus arrived and secured the area, and applied water to disperse the gas until it could be shut down. Due to hot and humid tempetures additional resources from Delmar and Blades were called to the scene. Firefighters remained on scene approx. 90 minutes awaiting the gas line to be cut off and secured. Chief Sheridan placed the incident under control at 1007 hours. Last units were placed into service at 1040 hours.
