Fully Involved Structure Is A Total Loss
Tuesday, December 11, 2007

On the afternoon of December the 10th at approx. 1537 hours Sussex E.O.C. alerted Station 81 (Laurel), 71 (Blades), & 87 (Seaford) to a reported structure fire in the 11000 Block of County Seat Highway. This incident just three hours after 81 units had cleared a previous working structure fire in Delmar.

Command 81 responded with Deputy Chief Jeff Hill and he advised that heavy smoke was visible from town. Command arrived on scene to find an old chicken house that was converted into a storage area fully involved. Engine 81-4 arrived on scene and layed a supply line in from the driveway. Firefighters went to work protecting the exposures and knocking down what was left of the structure. E-2 arrived and picked up the supply line to E-4. Blades units arrived and began to assist with the fire suppression and overhaul. Seaford units were placed into service by command.

A small fire was started by residences to burn a small pile of trash when things quickly changed and it extended into the chicken house. The structure was a total loss leaving minor damage to a near-by garage. Deputy Chief Hill placed the situation under control at 1603 hours. Last units were placed into service at 1638 hours.

Units on Scene: Command 81, Engine 81-4, Engine 81-2, Engine / Tanker 81-5, A-81, Engine 71-9, Tanker 71, Rescue 71, Medic 102, FM-11, and DSFP.
