On Wednesday evening 9/8 at 19:15 hours, LFD, Sharptown and Delmar Fire Depts. along with Medic 102 were alerted for a Structure Fire on Lankford Lane, w/o Mt Pleasant Road. Asst. Chief Jeff Hill responded as 81 Command. A large column of smoke was visible west of town. Eng. 81-2 responded with Asst. Chief Eric Whaley as officer. Upon arrival Hill found a large equipment barn fully involved with a propane tanking venting and exposures to a corn field. He established Lankford Lane Command. Eng 2 arrived and Asst Chief Whaley was ordered to act as Operations Officer. Their crew pulled two hand lines. E/T 81-5 arrived on scene and established water supply to Eng. 2. Eng. 81-4 and E/T 74-2 arrived with Chief Joe Morris and was sent to side 3 of the incident and pulled a line to cool the propane tank. E/T 1402 arrived from Sharptown and established water supply on side 3. Eng. 1404 was sent to the bridge in Portsville to set up a draft operation. Command notified EOC to have Blades respond with a Tanker Company and have Gumboro stand-by at Laurel's station. The building was a total loss. Units cleared at approximately 21:30 hours.
