On the early morning of March, 28, 2011 at approx 01:47 hours the Laurel (81), Delmar (74), and Sharptown (14) Fire Departments were alerted for a structure fire at 802 S Central Ave. Fire Chief Jeff Hill responded and arrived in command 81 to find a 2 ½ story wood frame dwelling with smoke showing. E-2 arrives and is advised to advance an attack line into the attic where the fire is located. Tower 81 arrives and sets up in front of the structure to ventilate. Firefighters from E-2 make an aggressive attack in the attic extinguishing the flames. Truck 74 and Truck 14 arrive and crews assist in pulling ceilings and extensive overhaul. E-1404 and E/T 74-2 along with E-3 arrive and provide additional water and manpower. Blades (71) were requested to the scene with their rescue and an engine to stand-by at station 81. Chief Hill placed the incident under control at 02:13 with units working. Firefighters continued to work for approx 2 hours removing belongings from the attic and extinguishing hot spots. Last 81 fire units were in service at 04:24 hours.
