MVC Engulfs Vehicle into Flames - Jackson Ave & West St

On July the 21st at 2343 hours the LFD, along with SCEMS, were dispatched for a MVA with entrapment, and vehicle on fire. Laurel Patrolman Adam Hitchens arrived within seconds to find the vehicle on fire, and the operator still inside unconscious. He knocked out the sunroof and rapidly extricated the driver from the burning vehicle. Laurel BLS arrived and began treatment. Paramedics arrived shortly after and assisted. Tower 81 arrived and extinguished the vehicle. E-4 and E-2 both provided additional manpower to assist EMS, and overhaul of the vehicle. Laurel EMS with Medics transported the priority 1 patient to NMH-ER. Due to the quick action of Officer Hitchens he was able to free the driver before he was consumed by the flames. The incident was placed under control shortly after. Asst. Chief Keith LeCates had command of the incident.
