On Sunday evening Dec. 23rd the Laurel, Delmar, Sharptown and Blades Fire Departments were dispatched for a structure fire at the Mount Pleasant Church. Asst. Chief Eric Whaley responded and arrived first and established Command. Fire was visible from the exterior near the peak, and steeple area. E 81-2 and E/T 1402 arrived and Command advised E-2 to utilize its Deck gun to knock the fire down. 1402 supplied water for this operation. Truck 14 arrived and set up on the A & D corner. Truck 14 went to work extinguishing the remaining hot spots from the steeple. E/T 74-2 and Rescue 71 arrived and crews assisted in salvage and extensive overhaul. Additional units arrived and staged. Quick work by firefighters using the Deck gun knocked majority of the fire out saved the Church from further damage. Minor water damage was sustained in the church, and minimal fire damage done to the structure. Fire Fighters were on scene for approx. 2 hours. (Updated with New Photos)
