On 1-9-2013 the Laurel fire department was alerted for a accident on Old Sharptown Rd west of town. The 911 center advised responding crews that there would be four patients. While en route 81 command requested for an ambulance from Sta.14 Sharptown to respond. Command arrived on scene to find a 4 door passenger car on its side with major damage to the roof area of the car due to coming into contact with a utility pole. The pole was snapped in half and wires were lying across the vehicle. EMS crews treated and packaged all patients and were transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford De for treatment. Old Sharptown Rd was closed for nearly 4 hours for the power company could restore power in the area. Delaware State Police is investigating the cause of the accident.
