Western Sussex Units respond to an Industrial Incident at Laurel Grain On 09/22/2021 at 13:37 hours the Laurel Fire Department responded to Laurel Grain for an industrial accident. Command 81 responded with Fire Chief Jeff Hill and was initially told that a subject was possibly trapped inside a grain silo. On arrival, Chief Hill found that a grain elevator had been struck by a passing farm truck and overturned on top of the truck, trapping the operator inside. Tower 81 arrived with Asst Chief Brandon Givens and Rescue 71 was requested. Sussex County Tech Rescue Team had been dispatched as well. It was deemed necessary to utilize a heavy wrecker to lift the grain elevator off the truck to free the patient. Carey’s Towing responded with 2 heavy wreckers, and also Chambers Towing responded with one. Crews from all entities worked together to lift the elevator, and then crews from 81 and 71 extricated the patient. The incident was placed under control and Delaware Trooper 2 transported the patient. Laurel Fire Department officers and members would like to thank everyone involved in making this a smooth operation.
