On January 12th at approx 0617 hours, the LFD along with SCEMS were dispatched to a MVC with entrapment on Sussex Highway and Camp Road. Asst. Chief Rob Givens responded in Command 81 and arrived on scene first to find a tractor trailer and a SUV involved with entrapment in the SUV. Asst. Chief Givens requested an Ambulance out of Blades to assist on scene. SCEMS 102 arrived and initiated ALS treatment on both occupants of the SUV. Engine 3 was next on scene with Captain Tim Walker and began preparation for extrication. Ambulance 81 with Career Firefighter/EMT Ryan Whittington arrived and assisted Medic 102 with patient care on the passenger in the SUV. Rescue 81 with Asst. Chief Steve Brittingham arrived and the crew began extrication of the driver of the SUV. The drivers side door was removed with a rapid extrication performed. The driver was transported to NMH by Ambulance 71 (Blades) as an ALS unit. The driver of the tractor trailer refused treatment on scene. Two patients were transported to NMH during the incident, the driver a priority 1 with a head injury, and the passenger a priority 2, with no life threatening injuries. Command 81 placed the incident under control at 0649. Last units were in service at 0735 hours.
