On Saturday evening February the 11th the LFD held their annual firemen?s appreciation night. The annual banquet is put on to recognize all the Men and Women in the Department for Service, Top Responders, Rookie of the Year, along with Firefighter of the Year. Over two hundred were in attendance for this year?s event including Lt. Governor Carney as our master of ceremony. Numerous firefighters were recognized with pins or plaques during the event. Past Chief Bill Hearn received Chief Emeritus, and was also recognized as the top fire responder. Chief Mark Sheridan received his Chiefs ring, and was recognized on achieving his lifetime status of twenty years with the Department. Sara Ellis of the Ladies Auxiliary was recognized for 65 years of service. Many other ladies were presented with service pins. Firefighter Dwayne Chaffinch was presented with the advanced training award from Chief Sheridan. Brett Morris received the Rookie of the year award, along with honors of top EMS responder. Engineer/Treasurer Dwayne Groton was presented with the firefighter of the year service award. Chief Sheridan presented past town manager Glenn Steckman with a gift for his hard work, and relationship gained with the Fire Department during his term with the Town of Laurel. Many others were recognized as Lifetime members, Past Chiefs, and our newly acquired Cadets. This year?s casual theme of Hawaiian styled fun started with cocktails, dinner, recognition, and ended with a dance. Special thanks to our Bartenders from Delmar FD, and Sharptown Fire Department for providing a stand-by crew so we could enjoy our event.
