Building Fire On Arvey Road

On Sunday March the 12th at approx. 1543 hours the LFD, along with Delmar and Gumboro Fire Departments, were dispatched to a structure fire on Arvey road. Command 81 with Deputy Chief Jeff Hill arrived on location to find, two out buildings fully involved, with fire spreading into the woods, and exposures to propane tanks. Engine 4 with Past Chief Bill Hearn was the first unit on scene and was advised by Command to pull a 1 ¾ inch hose line a make an attack. Engine 79-1 was directly behind E-4 and was advised by Command to pull in the driveway and place an additional hose line in service. Tanker 79-5 arrived next and supplied their E-1. E/T 74-2 arrived and supplied E 81-4. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in the woods and the two buildings. Despite efforts of the firefighters one building was a total loss, and the other suffered extensive damage. Deputy Chief Hill placed the incident under control at 1607 hours, holding units for overhaul. Last units were placed in to service at 1635 hours. The incident is being investigated by Fire Marshall?s office and Delaware State Police.
