On, Wednesday, May 31, 2006, Sussex E.O.C. contacted B-81 after clearing a previous call at around 0600 hours & advised them of a police action on Beaver Dam Branch Road, just East of Laurel.
The Delaware State Police say the incident began at approximately 0530 when the suspect allegedly fired several rounds into the unoccupied home of his ex-wife?s boyfriend (victim). A male subject in his mid 40?s was shooting at the victim; his ex-wife and their two children were in the home and heard the gunshots.
After the victim fled, the suspect allegedly confronted a newspaper delivery woman and pointed a weapon at her. While this was occurring, a Laurel police officer arrived at the scene and began talking to the suspect, ordering him to drop his weapons. Several state police officers then arrived at the scene and also began communicating with the suspect.
The police say the suspect was initially armed with a .223 caliber rifle (similar to an AR-15), a .40 caliber handgun, and a .45 caliber handgun.
At approximately 9:25 a.m., while standing in front of the home, the suspect fired one of his handguns, and then he turned the gun on himself and fired. B-81 & EMS 200 were then moved from the DSP Command Post to the scene. One priority one patient was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
