On the early morning hours of November 14th the LFD, along with automatic mutual aid assist from the Delmar and Sharptown Fire Departments, were dispatched to a structure fire on Dorothy road. Asst. Chief Alan Schweitzer responded in Command 81 and arrived on scene reporting a working fire. E-2 arrived first on scene under the direction of Rescue Captain Richie Condon. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack to try and contain the fire. Engine 74-1 (Delmar) arrived next and their crew pulled an additional hose line for back up of first in crew. Sharptown firefighters handled ventilation of the roof, assisted by additional firefighters from Laurel. Additional Engine companies were called in due to extensive overhaul.
Firefighters worked for approx. 1 hour to control the blaze and bring it under control. The homeowners escaped serious injury, however were transported to an area hospital for evaluation. Despite the efforts of firefighters the home was heavily damaged by smoke or fire throughout the residence. Four cats perished in the fire, and the cause is under investigation.
