Vehicle Collision With Entrapment

On Wednesday June the 20th at approx. 0842 hours the LFD, along with SCEMS, were alerted for a MVC with entrapment, on Sussex Highway and the intersection of Salt Barn Road. Asst. Chief Alan Schweitzer (81-17) arrived on scene to find a two vehicle MVC with entrapment in the Saturn. BLS/ALS crews began care on the trapped driver, while E-2 crew under the direction of Captain Tim West (81-21) went to work removing the doors. Rescue workers completely removed both doors on the driver?s side, along with the ?B? post to allow full access to the patient. The patient was freed and transported to NMH as a priority one. He was later transported to Christiana in serious but stable condition. The driver of the Cadallic refused transport. Asst. Chief Schweitzer placed the incident under control at 0912 hours. Last units were back in service at 0930 hours.
