On Sunday November 18th the Laurel Fire Department hosted its Fire Prevention Poster & Essay Awards Program.
Students from Kindergarten through Grade 8 began in early October preparing Posters and Essays that pertained to their Grades theme.
Teachers submitted the student?s work to the Fire Department who judged them according to neatness, content and presentation of the theme. Winners were recognized at Laurel Schools and Epworth Christian School. Selections were then made for the overall fire district.
First Place Winners at the Fire District level will proceed on to the County Program and be judged against winners from across Sussex County.
Fire Department President Bill Hearn thanked the members of Laurel Fire Department who worked to make this year?s program a success and the teachers and school administrators who cooperate to find time in their schedules for this worthwhile project.
Speakers at the event included Ron Marvel, President of the Delaware Vol. Firemen?s Assoc., Bill Tobin, and President of the Sussex County Vol. Firemen?s Assoc., Randy Lee, and Chairman of the Sussex County Fire Safety Committee. The master of Ceremonies was Guy Hudson, Chairman of the State Fire Safety Committee.
