On 8-9-2013 the Laurel, Sharptown and Delmar fire departments were alerted for a house fire due to a lightning strike during a severe thunder storm. Command 14 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions coming from the structure. Both occupants were out of the home when crews arrived. Engine Tanker 71 put two hand-lines in service and laid 5” hose out to the main road for a supply line. Interior crews contained the fire to a bedroom area of the home. A lightning bolt hit two trees in front of the home and traveled through the ground and shorted out the outside air condition unit. Units were on scene for just over an hour.
