Firefighters Place Effective Stop on House Fire

On March 22nd at 14:40 hours LFD, along with Delmar, Sharptown and Sussex County EMS was alerted for a house fire at 106 Maple Street.

Asst. Chief Mike Lowe responded as 81 Command and arrived to find heavy smoke from the roof area of a 2 1/2 story wood frame structure.  Fire was visible from the second floor D side window.

Eng. 81-4 arrived first on scene with F/F Daryl Revel as Officer.  This crew made an agressive attack through the front door up the stairway to the area of origin.  Eng. 81-2 with Chief Engineer Mark Oliphant arrived and dropped a 5" supply line from a hydrant at 8th and Maple Streets.  Oliphant acted as water supply officer.  Tower 81 was next on scene with Asst. Chief Donnie Layton and accessed the roof of the structure and preformed ventilation.

Truck 14 from Sharptown laddered the structure with ground ladders.  Dep. Chief Gosnell was assigned Safety and Accountability. Delmar Eng. 74-2 arrived and their crew relieved intial attack crews and preformed salvage.

Ambulance A-71 and SCEMS set up on scene for medical.

The fire was declared under control in about thirty minutes.  The scene was turned over to the Del. State Fire Marshal/Galaska.
